Frequently Asked Questions
J & B Equipment, Inc
CHAINS:
Q) What is a round top (round-ground)?
A) The cutter tooth has a gently rounded edge rather than a square. Common for dirty cutting & less
aggressive users. The tooth stays sharper longer & has less kickback. Seems easier to file for most.
Q) What is a flat top?
A) These chains have a square edged cutter for faster & more aggressive cutting. Used primarily for cutting
down or topping trees.
Q) What is a single drag?
A) These chains only have 1 depth gauge in front of each tooth instead of the older traditional chains which
had a depth gauge & a bumper length which stood up in front of the tooth causing it to take less of a bite. For
more aggressive users.
Q) What is a double drag?
A) These chains have a depth gauge & bumper length in front of each tooth which sole purpose is to cut down
on chain vibration & lower the risk of kickback.
Q) What is a skip tooth (skip sequence)?
A) These chains do not have a full sequence. Instead of the chain being tooth, link, tooth, link, they are tooth,
link, link, tooth. Used for cutting with the grain or dirty wood, thus not cutting as fast, but being quicker to
sharpen since they have less teeth.
